The release of our Les Miserables 20 hour series trailer, and video of  our film & TV convention panel discussion

Over the past weekend we have been representing the series at the Optimus film and TV convention in Torquay, where we were honored to be given a half hour slot in between Game of Thrones, and Ghostbusters, which also marked the release of our promo test-footage trailer for the series!

The Hunger Games: The Fourth Quarter-Quell (fanfilm) Trailer release

https://youtu.be/3Nw7pkIb7Qs

Hunger Games fanfilm trailer, filmed in Brixham & Paignton set in an alternate universe.

A practice project by some of our members and friends.

In this alternate universe, Katniss's rebellion failed, and this film tells the story of the brutal Fourth Quarter-Quell, where each district has had to offer 12 tributes, who fight in regional "Games", before the survivors are made to fight to the end in the "finals".

-Who will win?

-Who were these "finalists"

-And do the games unfold as the Gamemakers planned?

This has been a sideline project by some of our members, to create a half-hour Hunger Games fanfilm. While obviously money cannot be made from a fanfilm, it did allow for many important possibilities for our members. Many of them are signed to, or hoping to sign to, our casting agency, and wanted to expand their showreels beyond our usual norm of historical drama. It also allowed us to explore new techniques for filming and for our members to practice their film-making skills.

The trailer is complete, with the full film being edited now.

We are an award winning, family-friendly, completely non-profit, community-based theatre company, from the beautiful fishing port of Brixham; Devon (in South West England).

We perform theatre shows in Brixham, around Torbay, and South Devon, based on historical events, classical stories and mythology.

We were founded in late 2005 by two Brixham performers, and performed our first production in the summer of 2006. Since then we have gone from strength to strength, and are now growing rapidly, with awards won and a rapidly increasing member base, an appearance on a national BBC 1 TV programme, and sponsorship from London for our recent non-musical adaptation of Les Miserables.

New members are always welcomed regardless of their background, experience, beliefs or nationality; we provide an exciting hobby, performance experience and education, and a friendly, safe, inclusive atmosphere. We are not a "childrens" group, and in general require our members to be aged 16 (to 116!!!!), however younger performers may be accepted for some shows, with the strict requirement that they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times.

Open auditions for Zorro The Panto

Open auditions, talking place on Sunday Sept 14th, at 1pm, at our usual rehearsal venue of Chestnut Community Centre, Poplar Close, Brixham, TQ5 0SA

If you are unable to attend this date and would like to considered, please contact for an alternative auditions date to be arranged.

These are panto auditions, for a panto with a difference. This show remains a family-friendly production as with all our shows, but combines traditional panto, with the glamour of a Vegas-style show, to create an all new type of show, based on the legend of the Mexican bandit, Zorro.

Auditions are open to all, regardless of age and experience, what we do require is that you are reliable, a good timekeeper for rehearsals.

Unusually for this show, we are looking for performers aged 7 and upwards for the childrens chorus, as opposed to simply adults, for dancing and singing. All children must be accompanied at rehearsals and shows by a parent or legal guardian. (free coffee is available, or you might consider being in the show yourself too!)

Actors - a variety of roles are required, from leads to chorus. Some of the principal actors will also be required to sing and dance.

Singers- we are looking for solo and chorus singers.

Dancers- we are looking for dancers, or people willing to dance. You will need to be able to learn a variety of choreography, either solo or ensemble.

Rehearsals run on Sunday afternoons 1 - 4pm, and Wednesdays 7 - 9.30pm. If you need extra help with singing or dancing, extra rehearsals may be arranged for those involved in a specific scene or act.

We do not charge a joining fee or an audition fee. We do ask that each member contributes £1 per rehearsal, (children 50p) which goes directly into paying for the rent of our rehearsal hall. Free teas, coffees, juice and biscuits are provided for the use of all.

A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT:

In a nutshell, this is a long term crowdfunded internet film series, to be broadcast on Youtube and Vimeo, (and any other film or video sites chosen!) starting shooting by the end of 2014.

Overall, this is a three year project, with filming taking place for each crowdfunded episode, over a few days, after funding has been raised. During filming days, shoots could be an early start to late finish, and for relevant characters also include night-time shoots. A lot of locations will be in and around Devon and Cornwall in the UK, some locations in France, especially for later episodes, will be looked into as well.

This is a pretty different project, as it is based on Victor Hugo's UNABRIDGED novel (this is not the musical or a single feature film!) and we are remaining as faithful to that unabridged novel as is possible.

Due to the nature of crowdfunding we are hoping to be able to pay our performers, but this depends entirely on funds raised, and may alter episode by episode as the series gets more well known, but at the minimum, once you have been cast as a character in the series, your expenses will be covered.

Depending on what character you wish to audition for, and are cast as you may be required for several episodes (or indeed all of them), or simply one.

HOW TO AUDITION:

During August, our project website will be updated with set audition pieces for each character. You will be expected not to necessarily have learned the piece but to have made yourself familiar with it.
There will also be an audition pack in PDF and Word format, which will contain important information, and an application form. You will be asked to bring that, along with a headshot and an up to date performance resume.

At the auditions, you will be asked to perform the piece on video camera, as a screen test. We will be looking at your characterization, focus, and the realism of your portrayal of the character. You will be either auditioning solo, or with one other person, in front of the directors.

When you arrive, you will be directed to a waiting room, and we will call people in to audition in front of our panel. Doors open at 11am, and close at 6pm. The earlier you arrive, the earlier you will be seen, unless you have made a specific appointment.

There are several child roles, but all children MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Please be aware that we cannot accept auditions or applications via email or video. In order to be considered for a role, you need to attend in person.

THERE IS NO FEE REQUIRED FOR YOU TO AUDITION.

Written by William Shakespeare, and directed by Miss Laura J, the writer and director of our recent smash hit Les Miserables The Memoirs of Jean Valjean, this is a full-length, original language adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, set in 1860s Brixham, in a conflict between two families, the Capulets of Higher Brixham (Cowtown) and the Montagues of Lower Brixham (Fishtown). Performed by all-local actors, with an award-winning Torbay theatre company, this promises to be a thrilling production, bringing to life a classic of British theatre- set in the local area.
For centuries, Brixham has been a busy fishing port on the Southwest coast of England, and in the 19th Century, when we have set our production, it was the busiest fishing port in the UK.
At one time, so local legend tells, there was a rivalry between the families of "Lower Brixham" around the harbour, (during which time that area of the town was known as "Fishtown") and the farming families of Upper Brixham, literally up the hills towards Kingswear and Churston, which area was known as "Cowtown". As far as we can ascertain, the historical rivalry extended to some brawls, and the fishermen and farmers using separate entrances to St Marys Church.
In our adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, the tale turns more deadly, with the Capulets controlling "Cowtown" and the Montagues "Fishtown".
In a new departure, for us, the show is being performed against projected Victorian images of Brixham, from the Museum.
