Les Miserables auditions reminder
Les Miserables Reminder! : The South Devon Players theatre company,
Brixham are holding open auditions for an exciting and challenging new
amateur theatre production in Torbay - a new non-musical adaptation of
Victor Hugo's classic story. All seriously interested people are welcome
to audition, there are large and small roles to be cast.
Les
Miserables; The Memoirs of Jean Valjean is a new non-musical theatre show, based
directly on Victor Hugo’s thrilling novel of redemption, love and revolution,
set in 19th Century France. The South Devon Players are performing
this show in September 2013 around Torbay, and have announced open auditions for the production.
Whether you are ten or eighty, there are large and small roles available and
the auditions are open to both members and new people as well.
People new
to acting and performing are welcome.
All we ask
is that if you are aged under 16 (there are three child roles), that you are
accompanied by a parent or guardian, and that all performers are reliable; able
to rehearse on Wednesday evenings, and available for the shows, in September.
The
auditions will take the form of script readings on Wednesday May 15th
2013, at 7pm, at Chestnut Heights
Community Centre, Poplar Close, Brixham TQ5 0SA. Rehearsals commencing the
following Wednesday (same time/ venue).
As well as
performers, we are also looking for front of house helpers, and set/ stage
hands too, so if you do not feel like performing, there are plenty of other
ways to get involved in the show.
Please note
that Act 2 of the show is likely to contain strobe or light flashes.
The South
Devon Players theatre company are an award-winning, completely non-profit community/
amateur theatre company founded in 2005, based in Brixham and featured on BBC 1
national television in January 2013. We mainly specialise in shows about local
history, but sometimes expand to wider historical events (as in the case of
this production) as well. We are family friendly, lively and welcoming to all
who wish to be involved in theatre at any level. In the past, members have gone
on to perform in major feature films, and train at RADA. Our membership ranges
from age 10 to 65, and from professional performers to complete beginners, all
of whom work as part of a team to create new exciting shows which are then brought
to our local community.
Les
Miserables: The Memoirs of Jean Valjean will be directed by one of the theatre
company’s founders; Miss Laura J, who as well as being a professional performer
and model in her own right, also holds a Masters degree in teaching performing
arts, as well as degrees in film production, and photography – and has
performed in another production of Les Miserables in the past, elsewhere. She
is accompanied by Mrs Louise German, as assistant director. Louise is the other co-founder of the South
Devon Players, who has decades of community and amateur theatre experience in
her own right. Both are experienced directors, and looking forward to joining
you to create the biggest show the South Devon Players have yet produced.
